The book gives an easy to read overview of all 123 mesemb genera that were currently recognized in 1998. Some of them have since been reclassified, but the descriptions and color photos are still very helpful identification tools.
My favorite part of the book is the key in the back that gives a brief description and then directs you to a section of the book that may be the mesemb you are trying to identify.
