I have a copy of this book and it should be on the shelf of all Salvia gardeners. You will see exquisite photographs of Salvia species familiar and exotic, and you will want to grow them all. I do not understand French but will settle in this winter with a dictionary to translate and learn the language and more about this fabulous genus.
The most complete book about Salvia ever available. The book is in French language but largely illustrated and easy to understand. The author is himself a Salvia grower sharing is own experience and giving hundreds of usefull information about growing these plants, their classification and identification. About 300 taxa (with a majority of species, over 220) are described in detail. Most of the medicinal ethnobotanic uses of Salvia around the world are explained. A large part of the introduction deals with the finding of the 928 species of Salvia on the 5 continents by the explorers: the history of botany revisited trough Salvias. An easy to use identification key for the 220 cultivated species is also provided.
