Reviews of Making More Plants: The Science, Art, and Joy of Propagation

This is a nice book for anyone interested in random gardening tips. It is not, however, a reference book, as I discovered, for finding specific plants and how to propagate them successfully. The author may mention a plant in passing, but there is very little in the way of instruction with regard to specific plants. I would say, all in all, this is a generally good book with delightful photos, and some useful info... but again, not a detailed reference tool.

While "Making More Plants" is a stunningly beautiful book, with marvelous photos, it is not of much help as a reference work for any but a beginning gardener. It is not a book in which one could find the best propagation methods for specific plants except for the limited number of species that happen to be pictured in the text.The book would be helpful to a gardener who is not familiar with the basic propagation methods. It is not a book to which one could turn to learn the best way to propagate Abeliophyllum or Zizania nor the thousands of plants in between. No clue is given as to whether a specific plants come true from seed, what time of year to take cuttings, or any specific trick of the trade that is essentilal to success with difficult to propagate plants. A section of informative tables in the back would change "Making More Plants" from an attractive picture book to a reference of lasting value .

I am so looking forward to reading this book. I bought it online based on the strength of those beautiful photos and designs in the front and am thrilled to read all these great comments. Love a great garden book that delivers!!!

This is my favorite gardening book, so much useful information on propagation.

I love this book. It's one I return to again and again. It has a wealth of information and the pictures are gorgeous.

I was given this book by a DG member and it is one I treasure (both as a gift and for the wealth of knowledge it contains).

Not sorry I bought it but nothing on Brugs or Datrua .

As already stated the information and illustrations can't be beat. I always prefer to this book when I have a question on propagation. I have not been disappointed yet.
I was able to purchase on Ebay for $20.

A reliable standard with more information than we'll ever use but always there with the solution for growing seeds. We rely on it heavily.

What a beautiful book! And amazingly enough, it was informative as well. When it first arrived and I flipped through it, I was impressed by the wonderful photography; but, I was dubious of the instructional information that it would contain. These two qualities do not usually go together in gardening books, I have discovered. I was joyously wrong. My dubiousness was misfounded. This book has made its way rather quickly to the top of my favourites list. There would be no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. However, there would be a HUGE hesitation in lending it out of my library. ;)

Absolutley one of my favorites. I am working on a Horticultural certificate from a local college and this was one of the features books in the Propgation portion. It was already in my personal library and I refer to it constantly

Although I have not had time to read this cover to cover, I am incredibly impressed with what I have read. I purchased this book specifically to help me with the propagation of a few "problem" plants. The information provided, far exceeded my expectations.

Inspirational as well as inspiring.

I had the pleasure of hearing Ken Druse speak about this book last year. I had to purchase it following the lecture. I find the book to be well illustrated and very informative. A down to earth practical guide for the everyday gardener.

Not only this book has beautiful pictures, it is just as informative. It motivates to go out and propogate. A classic book for one's garden library.

For someone interested in propagating this is the Bible.

He covers all types of propagation. Well written, many color pictures.
