This is a book I refer to often. It has excellent advise and pictures from many of the top flower gardeners in the field (Sydney Eddison, Tracy DiSabato-Aust, Erica Glasener, etc.). I highly recommend owning this book to anyone who is an avid flower gardener. I would give this book 5 stars out of 5!
I was fairly disappointed with this book. Given the description and title, I expected much more specific information about landscaping and design, including many garden plans. Instead, the book is a collection of short essays written by various authors, focusing on specific topics. The writing is quite uneven.
Topics include: using shrubs in perennials borders, lasagna gardening technique of making new beds, pruning techniques, seed starting, annuals in the mixed border, using foliage plants, edging, and others. Some essays include design plans, but only a couple, and these are very vague. The pictures are nice, but overall this is not the design guide I was looking for.
